Pumpkin Carving Picnic at Haigh Quarry, 10/13/01.

Attendees: Reed, Jim Thrall & Nancy, Elaina & Dale Koditek, Marlene & Dan Mathias, Dave & Karen, Jeff, Abe, Bruce, and Beth & Richard.
(Sorry if I miss anyone, or got any names wrong!)

Although it rained most of the day, everyone had a great time! We had the covered dock on the deep end to ourselves, and once we moved the grill and picnic table onto the dock, we were all dry and comfy. Reed did an outstanding job manning the grill, with burgers, brats, and hotdogs for all. Everyone had plenty to eat.
The pumpkin carving was a great success! Six people participated, and everyone did a very respectable job. The competition was fierce! Jeff came out on top, with a Stars & Stripes motif (complete with American flags and flashing lights). Reed came in second, and Marlene came in third, both also with patriotic motifs. Abe, Elaina, and Bruce all turned in respectable entries as well. The club awarded Jeff, the first prize winner, an embroidered denim shirt (to be presented at the next club meeting).
Abe and Bruce conducted experiments, to determine the crush depth of a pumpkin (between 40 and 50 feet), and an attempted ballistic launch of said pumpkin from depth. (Dave captured the rather disappointing results on video.)
Dave took plenty of pictures, so I'm sure we'll be seeing those soon.
